Capella Bay Mosaic Murals Update!
Sandy, Maureen and Joan love our visits to Capella Bay Aged Care Residence for our regular mosaic workshops.
A wonderful and huge mosaic wall mural is underway and hopefully will be installed in July 2025!
Our senior mosaic makers are all keen and doing an incredible job working a the giant mural, which features a "cafe scene". Wait until you see it up on the wall.
Huge sheets of cement sheeting are on the studio workbenches, awaiting presealing with Laticrete Hydro Ban waterproofing membrane.
All the mosaics made on mesh will be installed soon (cafe umbrellas, cupcakes, trees, butterflies, birds and more)!
The background will be filled with mosaic mirror and well, it's going to be sparking and a very happy space at Capella Bay.
In August 2024, Dave and Sandra Robertson returned to Christmas Islandfor 2weeks, to collaborate with the local community and the Arts and Culture Christmas Island (ACCI) on a mosaic project, building on their 2009 Community mosaic wall project. They worked with residents to create vibrant mosaics on two concrete barbeques at Police Padang (Park), reflecting the island’s cultural heritage. Additionally, they refreshed a wall mosaic mural from their previous visit, ensuring its longevity. Their trip celebrated art, culture, and community, leaving a lasting, colourful legacy and exemplifying the power of art to inspire and unite.
Thank you to ACCI and community members who participated with us in this wonderful project. We had a wonderful experience again and love Christmas Island.

Handy Sandy Mosaic Tip: Before gluing, painting or grouting, lightly anoint your hands, cuticles, and under your fingernails, with Vaseline - it helps with cleaning up post-mosaic.
After clean-up, douse your hands with a white vinegar and water solution.
