Hello, mosaic enthusiasts! I’m Sandy Robertson, and I’m thrilled to share with you the vibrant world of smalti mosaics. As the founder of OzMosaics, I’ve dedicated my life to the art of mosaic making, and it’s my pleasure to invite you enrol in our smalti workshops.  This workshop is open to my students who have competed OzMosaics Workshop A.

Smalti, the traditional glass used in mosaics, is a material with a rich history and a bright future. At our workshops, held in the beautiful Coorparoo area of Brisbane, we dive into the colorful depths of Dynasty and Italian smalti. This glass comes in a stunning array of shades, including gold leaf topped smalti, bricks, blocks, slabs, rotti and fusings.

Our weekend workshops are a deep dive into the world of smalti. You’ll learn to shape and use this stunning material to create a beautiful mosaic and samplers. We provide all the tools you’ll need, including standard tile nippers, Leponitt mosaic tile wheeled nippers, and the hammer & hardie desk top tool.  You will create a fantastic unuldating substrate on which to create your mosaic.

But it’s not just about the techniques; it’s about the creative journey. We explore the color wheel, smalti cutting techniques, tinted adhesives, and both traditional and contemporary mosaic methods. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced crafter, there’s always something new to learn.

One of the unique aspects of our workshops is the focus on mixed media. Smalti glass can be used on its own or combined with other materials like china, metal, slate, and even gravel to create truly unique artworks. It’s amazing to see how smalti can transform when mixed with other tesserae.

I believe there are no boundaries in mosaic art. Using quality products like Laticrete Australia cement adhesives and grouts, I’m confident that your smalti artwork will stand the test of time. And with my guidance, you’ll learn when to grout and when not to grout smalti, exploring all the possibilities this medium offers.

So, if you’re looking to discover the beauty of smalti, reshape it using various techniques, and perhaps even mix it with other exciting materials, our OzMosaics smalti workshops are the perfect place for you. It’s a truly inspirational weekend, and I can’t wait to share it with you.

Come join us, and let’s spread the smalti further together!

Warm regards, Sandy Robertson
