Mosaic Workshop A - 1 day

Sandy has been recovering from a serious Lisfranc foot injury (Sandy won't ever put foot on a whale watching tour again!).  After 2 surgeries and wth the help of many and much effort by Dave, Sandy is reformatting her amazing mosaic workshops with the assistance of another mosaic artist.  The new classes will be better than ever, but run over longer time frames to cope with Sandy standing for too long on her injured foot.    We look forward to seeing you at OzMosaics for fun-filled, fantastic mosaic classes, better than before!

 Pre foot injury classes:

Dates subject to change - please check with OzMosaics at time of booking.  Ask to be on our "last minute cancellation list", sometimes it happens!

All students make the same mosaic/pattern/colour theme on a mosaic trivet using mosaic vitreous glass tiles.
This workshop is intensive, fun and you leave with a completed, grouted mosaic and the skills to make your own mosaic project at home, using the direct or mosaic mesh method.
3-D, china and thinset techniques are covered in Workshop B.  You may enjoy making a weekend booking into Workshop A and B or book in a 2-day weekend mosaic project class. Check out the menu of classes available or contact Dave to discuss what is suitable for you.
You will leave this workshop A with your head spinning with mosaic ideas and you will "see mosaics in a new light" after an OzMosaics workshop!

Workshop A - limit of 6 students. Sandy prefers to keep classes small so every student can mosaic and learn to the max!
Workshop B - limit of 4 students.  It's a very hands-on experience and every student will complete their 30 x 40cm project!

Large mosaic classes tend to see some students slip through the mosaic cracks and not complete their mosaic project.  Grouting demo and finishing your project at home is not considered a smART move by Sandy.   Be prepared to have an intensive, full day from 9 - 5.30 pm, jam-packed with mosaic tips, tricks, fun, inspiration and you will leave inspired, dreaming of mosaic possibilities and addicted to mosaics!

Notes from students who attended workshops at OzMosaics Studio:

December 2017:  Hi Dave, Yesterday Jane and I attended Workshop A and we absolutely loved it. Please let Sandy know that the whole day was completely inspiring and something that we will never forget. You were both so welcoming and Sandy is one of the most joyful people I have ever met. The whole workshop was extremely well run and professional. Thank-you very much!  I have polished my tile and it has taken pride of place in my home. I could not be prouder of myself. Both Jane and I would like to book into workshop b.  Thanks, Kylie

Hi Sandy & Dave,
Thank you so much for your wonderful workshop, Sandy I wish I lived closer, as I would be a permanent fixture.  I learned so much from your class, and I wished I had done it years ago, when I was offered to do the beginners course, I thought my 10 years experience would cover anything that the course had to offer, but I was blown away with your tips, knowledge that make mosaicing uncomplicated, and exciting. Calling it a "Beginners Course" does not give the course the credit that it deserves.
Thanks for everything, Lesley - Melbourne.

I have just traveled from New Zealand to attend the Beginner and Advanced Mosaic Course run by Sandy Robertson.

I had previous knowledge of mosaics, HOWEVER when I did the beginners course I realised how little I really knew and how much I struggled with simple things. It was amazing the information that was so freely shared with the group. We were all like bits of blotting paper soaking up all the knowledge that was being imparted to us in such an animated and structural way.
The Advanced Course - wow!! is all I can say. How enlightening how absolutely fantastic, fabulous and inspiring.
Sandy provided a professional, personable and safe learning environment and gave to each of us on an individual basis. Her love and enthusiasm for mosaics were infectious.
I not only gained back my "mojo" I gained a wonderful friend in both Sandy and Dave who looked after me so well. Dave, you need cloning you looked after us so well.
Thank you so much for this wonderful journey.
AnneMaree - N.Z.
RECOMMENDATION: Anyone thinking of a course look no further, I have attended many, but this is a Class A+ course.

Even if you have the mosaic experience, there are so many mosaic tips and tricks in Sandy's beginner workshop, this workshop is a pre-requisite at OzMosaics for all Sandy's students.  Attend Workshop A then progress to Workshop B.  If you haven't used the mosaic mesh method, it's covered in Workshop A.
Call us to chat about our workshop/your skills.
We find every student who has some mosaic experience and wants to skip Workshop A are so pleased they attended workshop A!
We don't cover all the info from Workshop A in Workshop B. Both mosaic classes are very intensive one day workshop.  You need to skill up in Workshop A on Sandy's techniques - ready for Workshop B, 3-D!
Phone or email Dave Robertson/Studio Manager to book your workshop.
Pay by direct deposit or credit card or visit studio to pay by EFTPOS/cash/cheque.

All mosaic materials and mosaic pattern provided for this workshop.

Please refer to the Mosaic Workshop Menu re what to bring & wear etc

The project you will make in this workshop:
A mosaic trivet- the mosaic gOzUnda!

So much info is packed into making this mosaic in one day!
This project has been the starting point for so many students.
The trivet may be small, but the knowledge and experience you take away with you are worth its weight in gold!

Over Workshop A and Workshop B we cover a lot of info! You will not be disappointed.
The project design and pattern is pre-determined in Workshop A and B, so you can get in and make a mosaic.  You have the rest of your mosaic life to spend drawing and designing - these workshops teach you skills and you apply the skills to your own art at home.
You will need to attend Workshop B, after Workshop A, if you wish to experience OzMosaics china and 3-D cutting and techniques.

What will you make in Workshop A?

  • mosaic trivet, fully grouted - direct mosaic mesh method - the A-Z  of mosaics!
  • prepare & make a mosaic on mesh - you will complete the process to install the mesh mosaic, completely grouted!

You will take home from Workshop A a fully-grouted trivet.
- You may apply final grout sealer to the trivet in Workshop B.
- If you don't attend Workshop B, we suggest you buy a bottle of our Final sealer to seal your project after it has cured in a few days time. ($10 per bottle).
What do you learn?

  • direct mosaic on mesh method - you will love it!
    -pre-sealing & final sealing base
  • substrates/bases suitable for mosaics
  • health & safety
  • tools
  • cutting
  • tesserae
  • grouting/grouting boards/sample boards
  • patterns
  • mosaic technique
  • adhesives
  • setting up a work area
  • planning and preparation
  • storage
  • and so much more!

You will learn about adhesives suitable for indoor/outdoor, what bases will last the distance, what technique to choose for projects, lots of Sandy's tips and tricks.

grout-board-ozmosaicsSandy will guide you on mosaic methods as you learn to nip and nibble, glue and paste, grout and polish! You will learn to select grout colours and what effect the grout colour and grout lines have on your works of art. At the end of the day, you will take home a small, grouted trivet - this mosaic will serve as a sample to remind you of the direct method process.

Even if you have dabbled in mosaics or done other mosaic courses, you will benefit greatly from OzMosaics Introduction to Mosaics Sandy Style, beginner class.
