A fantastic mosaic weekend is planned for you!
*Mixing Dynasty Smalti with mixed media.
*Shaping smalti + smalti surface facets.
*Making mosaic samplers of smalti techniques (opus + andamento). Traditional + modern methods.
*Hand-formed substrates - sandbox method, mosboard 3D shapes, undulating mesh/cement method. Unleash your creativity with interesting substrates. Go from flat to fantastic with free-form, over the top, mosaic bases.
You will work hard, every minute of your workshop weekend, but you will have great fun, lots of laughs and leave with so much information!
Hopefully, you will be charged with new mosaic energy and incorporate many of the new mosaic ideas and methods into your future art.
This intensive, hands-on weekend workshop is sampler based to allow students to make mosboard and undulating mosaic substrates.
You will be inspired to use the new techniques in your future mosaic artworks.
Mosaic samplers enable smalti and mixed media, modern and traditional mosaic techniques using a wide range of mosaic tools.
Explore a range of thinsets and epoxy paste.
Find out what works indoor/outdoor/submersed for your mosaic grouts and adhesives.
OzMosaics recommends Laticrete Australia cement based products + other mosaic materials.
You will have hands-on experience using Laticrete #4237 system, #335 Thinset (Standard + Rapid set), #3701 Fortified Mortar Bed(Awesome!), Hydroban Waterproof Membrane, Epoxy paste, and PermaColor sanded grout.
Experience the mosaic mesh method, sticky mesh and design techniques.
Work on sections of the Empress Theodora mosaic design, Euphoria, The Ravenna Doves, Mosaic Sampler Board or other provided patterns.
Andamento and Opus technique will be discussed and mosaic exercises will help explain the importance of traditional methods of mosaic shaping. Once you know some basics, you can let yourself go, bringing your own personality to design and shaping tesserae.
Each student is equipped with a loaner set of mosaic tools, including Leponitt tile wheeled nippers, Standard Tile Nipper, Tile File, Score 'n Snap tool etc. Workstations are set up to experience the hammer and desktop Hardie, wet saw, grinder, and a jigsaw for mosaic use.
Students are welcome to bring their own tools. Patterns are provided for the mosaic samplers. Lots of handouts/notes are provided.
Look at tesserae in a different mosaic light!
Continue working on your mosaic samplers at home.
Materials included:
tinted thinsets + epoxy paste + substrate materials + slate + mosaic mesh, patterns and a fun assortment of mixed media are included in the workshop.
Students may enjoy shopping in the OzMosaics Mosaic Store. Smalti galore! Over 200 shades.
