St Columba's Mosaic Peace Garden paver/Peace Pot Project - 2005
Please view the Dalby Photo Gallery below this article.
It was a bright, sunny day when Dave and I packed the station wagon full of mosaic supplies for the Dalby mosaic project. OzMosaics had been asked to assist in the making of a mosaic peace garden/courtyard.
My sister Julie, sister-in-law Trish and mosaicing Mum eagerly jumped into the car with me. They had volunteered to join me on this mosaic project, so we headed off up towards Toowoomba and on to the lovely country town of Dably in Queensland.
We had a big crowd waiting to make mosaics with us! The school parade ground had been vacated to allow a workplace for the mosaics and roped off accordingly.
Jo, the amazing co-ordinator of the project at the school and helpful teachers had prepared the designs, cut up many tiles and lugged the heavy pavers onto worktables.
Every class had enjoyed mosaic lessons with their teacher and were ready to participate in the making of the murals. Each class planned a design/theme for their mosaic paver. The pavers when completed would be embedded in a circular peace garden at the school with a large mosaic pot as the centrepiece.
The photos in the album tell the story. The students were excited, some glued, some broke down tiles (safetly of course!) and others cut and shaped the ceramic tiles.
It took a few days and all the pavers were grouted before we left to return to Brisbane.
There are many photos, but they tell the mosaic story of how many hands make light work.
I do remember grouting the mosaic pot blue and driving back to Brisbane with very blue hands!
We were tired after the mosaic marathon, but had a fabulous time, the community in Dalby is very friendly and creative!
Thank you St Columba's - 2005! We had a wonderful time.
