Theodore Community Murals - Completed!

Theodore 2013 - Mosaic Community Art Project
Mosaic Project:  Junction Park -
Banana Shire Council
Two sided wall - mosaic murals
The mosaic wall in Junction Park, Theodore has been completed.
2 trips, 8 hours each way - Sandy & Dave enjoyed the very beautiful drive from Brisbane to Theodore, through country towns and the Australian bush.

Here are photographs of both sides of the mosaic wall project:

Sandy taught the community and art group to mosaic, with mosaic workshops and almost 24/7 mosaic making.
Everyone was welcome to participate and add mosaic to the mosaics being fabricated on fibreglass mesh in the big Showgrounds Shed.  It was a great venue to make mosaics and much fun, laughter, and friendship was mixed with mosaic passion and hard work.

The first trip to Theodore involved making the mosaics on mesh and the second trip enabled the mesh mosaics to be sectioned and applied to the concrete, curved wall in Junction Park.  Many hands helped Sandy and Dave apply the mosaic panels to the concrete wall (which had been prepared by Dave on the first trip with Laticrete waterproof membrane).

Using Laticrete cement products the mesh panels were applied to the wall and after setting, grouting commenced.  The mosaics were cleaned and a gloss sealer applied to enhance the grout and the tesserae.

A bbq was held on the Thursday afternoon after the mosaic wall was completed.

The weather was perfect during the installation in Junction Park and it rained on Friday when Sandy and Dave departed back to OzMosaics studio in Brisbane.  We were so fortunate the weather was on our mosaic side.

Dave and Sandy look forward to returning to Theodore one fine day to enjoy the campsites at Junction Park.  It was very enjoyable to chat to the friendly campers and listen to their travel tales and it seems everyone loves to stop over at Theodore.

Thanks to the Theodore Community for a wonderful, friendly welcome in Theodore and for all the help, fabulous food and friendship during the mosaic marathon!
