Well done everyone in Theodore! To view work in progress photos of the mosaic mural, make friends with Sandy Robertson on Facebook or OzMosaics Facebook Page! On completion of the mural, full blog and photo album will be shared here.
Special thanks to Amanda and Tracey for everything you did to make our first visit so special!
Everyone we met in Theodore was so friendly, helpful and accommodating. We enjoyed our stay at the Hotel and Dave had a little time to explore Theodore.
We can't wait to return very soon! Thank you!

Turn on your computer speakers and listen to Tracey Hewitt chat to ABC Capricornia "Breakfast with Jacqui Mackay" - about the mosaic project:

I am so excited that I am the artist to guide, teach and advise on this exciting mosaic project at Theodore, Queensland and work with Artist Tracey Hewitt and other participants - it will be fun to create these murals at Theodore and the community will gain new mosaic skills for future artworks for the community and their own projects.
I am very passionate about this project and look forward to meeting the people of Theodore and learning more about Theodore and it's history.
OzMosaics is very grateful to Laticrete Australia for their ongoing advice, support of the art of mosaics, professional advice and donation of Laticrete materials for this project.
Mosaic artwork will depict local flora, fauna, river and spotlights in Theodore and surrounding countryside.
Ideas from the community were submitted and local artist Tracey Hewitt drew up the fabulous artwork for the mosaic mural.
OzMosaics enlarged the design, added mosaic interpretation, selected a wonderful array of tesserae and suitable Laticrete cement products to ensure a professional, long-lasting mosaic artwork.

Laticrete has generously donated cement/grout/waterproof membrane materials for the Theodore project in recognition of the community mural and the project significance to the community of Theodore. Australia still remembers how all the residents of Theodore had to be evacuated during the 2011 floods and the bravery and spirit of Theodore.
Theodore has great pride and this community mosaic mural will be fabulous - a great tourist attraction and meeting place in Theodore’s Junction Park. OzMosaics is proud to be involved in this project and looking forward to getting to know the people of Theodore and thanks Laticrete for their support for all things mosaic and their mosaic perfect products.
Follow the Theodore Mosaic Murals marathon!
Monday - 13th May 2013 - busy packing materials, tools, Laticrete cements, grouts, waterproof membranes, epoxy etc, instruction/workshop preparation. I have spread the tesserae/tiles over the surface of the mural designs to estimate materials required for surface coverage. Taken 2 batches of mosaic glass mOzMELTS out of my glass kiln. The wine bottles fused perfectly for some interesting palm tree frond tesserae. I willl cut the bottoms off some clear wine bottles to encase some bottle caps (local find!!!) in the mural and help prevent them rusting. Will see how this works out, but it's exciting.
I have made small samples of possible design fills (opus/andamento), suggested colour shades and material mixes. My laptop has a slide show of colour shading in mosaics, and inspiration for background fills, 3-D and lots more! I want the mosaic makers to have great input in this and I am eager to listen to their suggestions too.
I had to start somewhere as we can only fit so much in the 4WD! Weather is overcase in Brisbane so I hope it clears up a bit. I am looking forward to meeting Tracey Hewitt (lead artist) and Amanda Whitney (Community Development Officer) who have been incredible with their assistance in the planning, design of this wonderful project. The wall has been built in Junction Park and it awaits decoration!
Tuesday - 14th May 2013 - pack all the supplies, materials etc into the 4WD! Will live in jeans, track suit pants, black t-shirts, sweater and joggers. Didn't get time for a hair cut, but luckily for hair combs and scrunchies!
Wednesday 15th May 2013 - head off for Theodore, a fabulous drive up through beautiful outback Queensland. On arrival, meet with organisers, settle in and unpack all the supplies at the Showgrounds all ready for early start on Thursday morning (workshop - 2 hours) then full on mosaic making!
Can't wait to set on on Wednesday - see the wall - check the pattern fits, mark where the wall changes direction on the mural design (to allow mesh segments to be cut properly when ready for installation) and get started!
Thursday 16th 2013 - Workshop - make mosaic 24/7!
....stories, photos, updates to come!
Keep checking back to see the mosaic murals grow - or follow on Face Book
