Dave and I had a wonderful time at Christmas Island - two weeks and a perfect mix of mosaic making with the CIAA Society and exploring this Natural Wonder. I am busy sorting through thousands of photos and videos, editing and preparing info to share with you.
Christmas Island - Diverse People, A remarkable Oceanic Island, A Tantalising Ocean, So Many Things to Do. If you want Tourist info please contact the Christmas Island Tourism Association regarding Car Hire, 4WD Island Tours, Fishing Charters, Bicycle Hire, Accommodation, Sightseeing Charters, SCUBA Diving, Snorkelling and perhaps include a trip to Cocos (Keeling) Islands.
The mosaic workshops were wonderful, so many community members attended the hands on mosaic workshops - the upcoming blog will show our trip from Perth to Christmas Island and back, featuring Christmas Island sights, our exploration of the island and of course, the making of the huge mosaic murals on fibreglass mosaic mesh.
Thanks to all our customers who are keeping Dave very busy processing many orders from the online mosaic shop. The studio store has been very busy with customers too. I am looking forward to my first mosaic class this Saturday, since we arrived home a week ago. The workshops leading up to Christmas as almost full, so book soon for pre-Christmas 2012 classes.
2013 will see new workshops coming to OzMosaics Studio and progress is being made on the upcoming online school. Very exciting. It's been such a busy 2012 - presenting many mosaic and personal challenges for myself and many of my friends and students around the world. We both wish everyone strength and courage in the face of what Mother Nature throws at us all, working together in communities rebuilds more than structures, it also connects people and hopefully, brings out the best in us all.
Anyway, look out for my Christmas Island Blog update. I miss my new friends at Christmas Island very much and the mosaics of course! Hopefully, it won't be long till we are back and helping to install all the stunning mosaics on the huge concrete YingYang seat design and surrounding floor. The community will keep working on the murals and I will make some more pieces to take back to CI over the next year. If you ever want to see a special place, a little off the usual beaten tourist track, visit Christmas Island. You will love it and the water temperature is average 27 degrees Celcius year round, the pristine coral reefs, vertical wall dives and cave diving the cliff edges add an extra dimension to the underwater world. Topped off by near perfect visibility, often in excess of 40 metres, the adventure awaits.
I loved the diversity of the beaches and the Christmas Island community are so friendly. The waterfalls are amazing, with hundreds of crabs at what I called "CLUB Crab" - you have to go and see it for yourself. If you love birds, be prepared to be busy - they soar over the cliff tops, flit through the rainforests and are truly beautiful. You can explore the heritage trail and even play golf, with extra special rules applying if a crab blocks the holes!
OzMosaics Christmas Island Experience and Mosaic Marathon story coming soon to this blog.
Have a happy day!
