Concept – A funky Mosaic Wedding Setting

There we are, Dave and I, married Feb 2 1974...the Saturday after the 1974 floodwaters receded.

I still have my wedding veil, my sister and sister-in-law both wore it after me.  When I saw the dressing table at the Tip Shop, I remembered sitting in front of an old dressing table on my wedding day and thinking "it all turned out so well after almost being washed away..." and I felt the spirit of all Brides gazing out at me. ... that's why my veil is attached to my entry in the Tip Shop Competition (something old....)....
It all starts with an idea, the lights so off in your head and you are off and running!
I knew what I had to do!  Create a whimsical wedding setting out of furniture and items from the Tip Shop, bringing fun and elegance and fascinating combinations of tesserae to the Brisbane Public.  Not all mosaics are swimming pools, tabletops, bathrooms or church walls!

wedding invitation

“Sit on the wedding chair in front of the mosaic dressing table  and see yourself momentarily reflected as a Brisbane Bride!” says artist Sandy Robertson.

Gaze at the gorgeous wedding cake tiered stand made from old vases and glass plates – displaying mosaic wedding cupcakes! (no calories, but great keepsakes or wedding favours!).

Imagine wearing the mosaic headpiece/veil and holding the mosaic wedding bouquet fashioned from old silk flowers, china and doilies.

A old “dunny” has been transformed into a mosaic wishing well with a suspended miniature wedding chapel.

The Queensland honeymoon venue and story will be featured on the back of the dressing table.

wedding photo frames mosaicThe family wedding photographs are special to me.
Dave's mother had a huge bouquet!

It inspired me to pull apart an old bunch of cream silk flowers and recreate the silk blooms  with a mix of old crocheted doilies, china centres, pearls and buttons.

I wonder how things went for these women, Great Grandma, my mother and my mother in law....did things go smoothly on the wedding day or were there Bridezilla moments!  Everything always looks so wonderful on a bride's wedding day but we often hear later on about those Bridezilla moments! LOL!

My mosaic art entry is whimsical, but I hope it stirs the creative juices of Brisbane residents and they become more aware of how their discarded household items, can be reused for decorative mosaics for home and garden.

The  BCC/Endeavour Geebung and Acacia Ridge Tip Shops are great places to visit - with an amazing array of items to reuse and relove - at reasonable prices!

Tip Shops:  Open Sat-Sun 8-4pm

Wonderful memories but oh what a week it was leading up to the wedding day....
