Looking back to the year 2000, I would not have imagined the amazing places and projects that I have undertaken or how many students I have had the joy of introducing to mosaic art through my workshops. I have travelled to remote and exciting locations and had mosaic experiences that most would only dream of as a mosaic artist/teacher.I value and treasure every mosaic moment and it's all still happening. Projects are plentiful and students keep attending my workshops. It's wonderful to work at something you love. I am most grateful for my mosaic life. My wonderful husband Dave runs OzMosaics with me and it's a double blessing to work with my mosaic man!
Mosaic Artworks are enduring; for centuries captivating audiences and inviting exploration, whether mural wall features or amazing surface coverings on concrete or speciality sculptures. Mosaics linking our past to our future, traditional or contemporary; provide amazing public artworks.
Mosaics - emotionally engaging...visually stunning...OzMosaics Studio produces compelling mosaics in architectural settings or perhaps a simple artwork decorating a teapot surface. Intricate works covering a myriad of surfaces fascinating the public and private clients.
As a mosaic artist and instructor, I explore and foster the art of mosaics with my clients, students and fellow artists.
Sometimes whimsical, sometimes bold; my artworks invoke an emotive response. My mosaic arsenal comprises more than the standard materials, as I have the ability to see exciting potential in unusual objects.
Mine is an innovative, edgy style, combining traditional and contemporary mosaic practice. Constantly transforming, materials present in one form but emerge in a mosaic other. From a plate, a flower grows; from smalti, anything is possible. Everything is at once old and new.
I see life with a mosaic eye; one that focuses in three dimensions. I see light and shade as tesserae - light floods where shadows are missing, drawing attention to texture and unique contours. My mosaic landscapes often rise and fall, and each piece understands its position. My artworks can abundantly overflow - reaching out, diving deep - connecting thoughts and emotions. I am a mosaic whisperer who composes the andamento.
My mosaics pull me apart emotionally, as I put them together - we connect each other. My work is ever evolving, challenging my mosaic expression. Creating with great energy and consideration, I quickly bring vision to a client's brief - but am prepared to dig deeper and deeper until we gel.
Passionate about exploring the possibilities of cement and mesh, my techniques have been resoundingly endorsed by the global mosaic community. I constantly refine, adapt and experiment with mosaic methodology - expect the unexpected, a world where no tesserae fear to embed - all opus are opulent!
Photo shows Sandy on mosaic location in Hong Kong 2011.
11 large Easter Eggs formed a month-long exhibition for SINO in the huge golden shopping Centre on the Hong Kong Harbour. Sections of mosaic were fabricated in Australia; some egg substrates were made by Gold Coast polystyrene sculpture genius for Sandy and then rendered with cement and mesh by Sandy at OzMosaics studio. A huge mosaic feat!
8 days on site in HK produced 11 mosaic eggs fully grouted and exhibited. 5 mosaic eggs featured Australian Mosaic designs by Sandy, 5 mosaic eggs showcased Hong Kong Tourist points and one gigantic egg was covered in a mosaic of the Hong Kong Harbour skyline at night.... for the main feature.
My art has opened doors to new adventures, amazing projects and business links.
