Sandy Robertson has taught thousands of people to make beautiful mosaics over the last 2 decades at her beginner to advanced mosaic workshops in Brisbane, overseas and in many schools and communities.
Many students have gone on to run mosaic businesses and amazing artworks.  Sandy is proud of every student and knows once your hold a pair of Magical mosaic Leponitt mosaic cutting tools in your hands, it's usually the beginning of a lifetime of mosaic making.  Sandy's art is well known and she teaches diverse methods and uses a wide range of mosaic materials to turn into mosaic "tesserae".
Find your own mosaic flow (andemento) with Sandy.
Whether you wish to create gorgeous mosaic garden pot planters, make mirrors, mosaic tables or wish to mosaic a wall - learn the basics with Sandy so every one of your mosaics lasts the distance.  Everyone can make mosaics, from kids to grandparents.  Use recycled materials and/or gorgeous glass, pebbles, stones or whatever to desire!
Sandy will teach you how to shape, break, smash, create, glue, grout, seal ad more.  You are only limited by your imagination.  Don't just stand there, book in today!
I look forward to seeing you in your glass at Studio OzMosaics, in Brisbane.  Phone us for a chat or more info.

Student comments:

Beginner Class:   "When I attended OzMosaic Beginners course I knew not one thing about mosaics.  Boy did that change quickly!  Sandy is absolutely bursting with knowledge, enthusiasm, experience, techniques, tips, tricks and great mosaicing stories.  The workshop had a lovely welcoming and personable atmosphere and her passion for mosaicing is just so contagious.  By the end of the day I felt so motivated and confident to start my own mosaicing journey.  An absolutely fantastic day and so worthwhile for anyone who wants to try this fun craft! "    Michelle.

Advanced Course:    Wow!  Talk about value for money!  Our day was jam packed with even more information, techniques and hands on fun!  And the nicest part is that I took home a unique 3D mosaic that was my personal creation, yet made with the help of Sandy’s expert knowledge.  Not sure if the best part was smashing wine bottles, cutting glass, oozing grout, or just the great company!  I’d definitely recommend this course to challenge those further who have already done the Beginners Course.  Fantastic!".   Michelle

Thanks to the organisers and BCC for a wonderful opening of the 2013 Tip Shop Competition.

A beautiful venue (I love the Town Square Library!).  Delicious catering and excellent presentations re opening/welcome speeches.  A good crowd and fun to meet other artists, chat to people about our artworks and a very enjoyable evening all round.

Brisbane city is so beautiful day and night and a walk afterwards across the bridge, makes me so proud of our city.

Thanks to Dave and my wonderful mosaic mates for attending the opening tonight with me.

Jodie Powderly and all the BCC and Library staff are so friendly and helpful  - it was so exciting to be part of this project.

Congratulations to the other artists, your work is wonderful!  All the artworks are so different but all have the same message, think about things before you send them to the tip - share, recycle, reuse, reinvent, think outside the square.

I love the idea of zero waste!
The speeches were inspiring and remind us of how our parents used to recycle before it was "fashionable" and the thing to do.  Remember our parents keeping all leftovers, string, brown paper bags, foils neatly folded in the kitchen drawers?  Nothing was wasted and they knew the meaning of reuse, recycle and waste not - want not, instinctively.

It was nice to relax in such a lovely venue.  I love the design, location, especially the library windows and the planning of the Town Square library - every angled window gives a wonderful "snap" of Brisbane city and surrounding river and hills.  It was interesting how many people were using the library on a Friday afternoon/evening - all the high tech computers and facilities make the library a good meeting place and of course incredible resources at our fingertips.

Brad and Lauren attended the opening!  Lauren loved the built-in perfume atomiser in the gigantic glass bowl "flower" - Laticrete Australia - awesome products - made it possible to attach such a huge flower easily, to a glass mirror!

I was telling Nick Colette - Laticrete Australia (who returns my emails and phone calls so promptly, pleasantly and always has spot on helpful info) how it's easy to  "feel when the epoxy adhesive is set" - especially the Rapid Set epoxy paste.... Oh how I love that product!!!!!!!
Warmth!  I can tell when the epoxy is set by the warmth coming through the glass. How cool is that?!

Where is Theodore?

Turn on your computer speakers and listen to Tracey Hewitt chat to ABC  Capricornia  "Breakfast with Jacqui Mackay" - about the mosaic project:

wizard of mozI am so excited that I am the artist to guide, teach and advise on this exciting mosaic project at Theodore, Queensland and work with Artist Tracey Hewitt and other participants - it will be fun to create these murals at Theodore and the community will gain new mosaic skills for future artworks for the community and their own projects.

I am very passionate about this project and look forward to meeting the people of Theodore and learning more about Theodore and it's history.
OzMosaics is very grateful to Laticrete Australia for their ongoing advice, support of the art of mosaics, professional advice and donation of Laticrete materials for this project.

Mosaic artwork will depict local flora, fauna, river and spotlights in Theodore and surrounding countryside.

Ideas from the community were submitted and local artist Tracey Hewitt drew up the fabulous artwork for the mosaic mural.

OzMosaics enlarged the design, added mosaic interpretation, selected a wonderful array of tesserae and suitable Laticrete cement products to ensure a professional, long-lasting mosaic artwork.

-Theodore community / OzMosaics

Laticrete has generously donated cement/grout/waterproof membrane materials for the Theodore project in recognition of the community mural and the project significance to the community of Theodore.  Australia still remembers how all the residents of Theodore had to be evacuated during the 2011 floods and the bravery and spirit of Theodore.

Theodore has great pride and this community mosaic mural will be fabulous - a great tourist attraction and meeting place in Theodore’s Junction Park.  OzMosaics is proud to be involved in this project and looking forward to getting to know the people of Theodore and thanks Laticrete for their support for all things mosaic and their mosaic perfect products.

Follow the Theodore Mosaic Murals marathon!

Monday - 13th May 2013 - busy packing materials, tools, Laticrete cements, grouts, waterproof membranes, epoxy etc, instruction/workshop preparation.  I have spread the tesserae/tiles over the surface of the mural designs to estimate materials required for surface coverage.  Taken 2 batches of mosaic glass mOzMELTS out of my glass kiln. The wine bottles fused perfectly for some interesting palm tree frond tesserae.  I willl cut the bottoms off some clear wine bottles to encase some bottle caps (local find!!!) in the mural and help prevent them rusting. Will see how this works out, but it's exciting.

I have made small samples of possible design fills (opus/andamento),  suggested colour shades and material mixes.  My laptop has a slide show of colour shading in mosaics, and inspiration for background fills, 3-D and lots more!  I want the mosaic makers to have great input in this and I am eager to listen to their suggestions too.

I had to start somewhere as we can only fit so much in the 4WD!  Weather is overcase in Brisbane so I hope it clears up a bit.  I am looking forward to meeting Tracey Hewitt (lead artist) and Amanda Whitney (Community Development Officer) who have been incredible with their assistance in the planning, design of this wonderful project. The wall has been built in Junction Park and it awaits decoration!

Tuesday - 14th May 2013 - pack all the supplies, materials etc into the 4WD!  Will live in jeans, track suit pants, black t-shirts, sweater and joggers.  Didn't get time for a hair cut, but luckily for hair combs and scrunchies!

Wednesday 15th May 2013 - head off for Theodore, a fabulous drive up through beautiful outback Queensland.  On arrival, meet with organisers, settle in and unpack all the supplies at the Showgrounds all ready for early start on Thursday morning (workshop - 2 hours) then full on mosaic making!

Can't wait to set on on Wednesday - see the wall - check the pattern fits, mark where the wall changes direction on the mural design (to allow mesh segments to be cut properly when ready for installation) and get started!

Thursday 16th 2013 - Workshop - make mosaic 24/7!
....stories, photos, updates to come!

Keep checking back to see the mosaic murals grow - or follow on Face Book

Mundubbera School - Mosaic Project

Mundubbera School
Centenary Mosaic Project 2013

Sandy & Dave are heading off to Mundubbera to create a mosaic wall mural with the Mundubbera School students, teachers, parents and community!

OzMosaics Studio is excited to be involved in this very special mosaic mural to be installed at the school upon completion.  Sandy Robertson will be conducting mosaic workshops with the school students and community, day and night!

Of course, we are using Laticrete products (Hydroban, 4237, Permacolor Grout, Epoxy Paste etc) to ensure a very professional mosaic is created.  Mosaic materials supplied by OzMosaics Mosaic Supplies Store, will include Dynasty glass smalti tile, vitreous mosaic glass tile, ceramic, glitter back/foil tile, mirror, beads and much more!

All school students will place some tesserae in the main mural and work with the community on the other 5 panels (or more!).   Lots of hands on with the materials, tools, methods and grouting of course!  We will use the mosaic mesh method, direct method and mixed media - as much as possible to enthuse everyone and hopefully create a mosaic group in Mundubbera after we leave.

Locals will be encouraged to bring in found objects, china and collected items to include in the other 5 mosaic murals to also be installed on school buildings.  It will be a hive of activity with school workshops in the day, after school and evenings!

The mural making event will be at the school and Dave and Sandy look forward to meeting as many residents of Mundubbera as possible during the mosaic marathon.  We expect a huge outbreak of "mosaic addiction" so will pack extra mosaic mesh and tesserae to ease the mosaic symptoms!!!!

Share the adventure, view photos in progress on Sandy's Facebook Page or sign up to be a "facebook friend" of Sandy Robertson.

The mural making will all be indoors and the substrate is cement sheeting.  No weather hassles to worry about with the creation of this mosaic project!

We will head off back to complete the Theodore Junction Park Mural a couple of days after our return from Mundubbera!  Dave and I are getting to know every twist and turn of the road between Brisbane, Mundubbera and Theodore but we love driving through country Queensland, it's so beautiful!

Nostalgia: Dave's grandparents lived in Mundubbera for many years, his Grandfather was the station master.  It's such a wonderful and emotional experience for Dave and I to be involved in the Mundubbera School Centenary mural as Dave's Aunt Alison, mother Margaret and Uncle Bill all lived in Mundubbera for some of their childhood.

As we passed through Mundubbera recently, we stopped at the riverbanks near the old Railway and took lots of photos.  We could imagine his family playing there and swimming in the river.  I love taking photos of the countryside in Queensland, the bottle trees, rivers, sky, country towns... When we return from our Mundubbera and Theodore projects I will upload special galleries to showcase the projects and the incredible scenery of outback Queensland, especially Theodore and Mundubbera.  The locals at Theodore and Mundubbera are so friendly and work so hard! Dave and I admire the courage of all the people affected by the 2011 and 2013 floods.

Can you spot the cow in the tree in one of the photos below?  We love the Bakery in Mundubbera (pies are great!).  The lady at the Bakery told me about the cow up the tree in the 2013 floods!  Can't wait to get to know the people of Mundubbera.ozmosaics bottle tree
