Workshop A - Beginner/Intro/Mosaic Mesh/Direct Method/Tips & Tricks!
All students make the same mosaic/pattern/colour theme on a mosaic trivet using mosaic vitreous glass tiles.
This workshop is intensive, fun and you leave with a completed, grouted mosaic and the skills to make your own mosaic project at home, using the direct or mosaic mesh method.
3-D, china and thinset techniques are covered in Workshop B. You will leave this workshop with your head spinning with mosaic ideas and you will "see mosaics in a new light" after an OzMosaics workshop!
Note from studens who attended workshops at OzMosaics Studio 2013:
Hi Sandy & Dave,
Thank you so much for your wonderful workshop, Sandy I wish I lived closer, as I would be a permanent fixture. I learnt so much from your class, and I wished I had done it years ago, when I was offered to do the beginners course, I thought my 10 years experience would cover anything that the course had to offer, but I was blown away with your tips, knowledge that make mosaicing uncomplicated, and exciting. Calling it a "Beginners Course" does not give the course the credit that it deserves.
Thanks for everything, Lesley - Melbourne.
I have just travelled from New Zealand to attend the Beginner and Advanced Mosaic Course run by Sandy Robertson.
Cost $140.00 inc gst.
$50 deposit at booking, balance payable at workshop.
Course duration: 9 - 5 pm. One day, workshop -
expect great value and you will learn more at this one day workshop than most other artist's mosaic workshops, thus saving you time and money!
** Sandy tries to finish the class on time, but sometimes we run overtime, so be prepared to be here till 5.30 pm if necessary.
Students are always so eager and Sandy tries to answer many questions, outside this workshop content but if you have special mosaic project questions, please consider booking a mosaic one on one consultation with Sandy.

Project you will make in this workshop:
A mosaic trivet- the mosaic gOzUnda!
So much info is packed into making this mosaic in one day!
This project has been the starting point for so many students.
The trivet may be small, but the knowledge and experience you take away with you is worth it's weight in gold!
Over Workshop A and Workshop B we cover a lot of info! You will not be disappointed.
The project design and pattern is pre-determined in Workshop A and B, so youcan get in and make a mosaic. You have the rest of your mosaic life to spend drawing and designing - these workshops teach you skills and you apply the skills to your own art at home.
You will need to attend Workshop B, after Workshop A, if you wish to experience OzMosaics china and 3-D cutting and techniques.
What will you make in Workshop A?
- mosaic trivet, fully grouted - direct mosaic mesh method - the A-Z of mosaics!
- prepare & make a mosaic on mesh - you will complete the process to install the mesh mosaic, completely grouted!
You will take home from Workshop A a fully-grouted trivet.
- You may apply final grout sealer to the trivet in Workshop B.
- If you don't attend Workshop B, we suggest you buy a bottle of our Final sealer to seal your project after it has cured in a few days time. ($10 per bottle).
What do you learn?
- direct mesh mosaic method - you will love it!
- pre-sealing & final sealing
- substrates/bases suitable for mosaics
- health & safety
- tools
- cutting
- tesserae
- grouting/grouting boards/sample boards
- patterns
- mosaic technique
- adhesives
- setting up a work area
- planning and preparation
- storage
- and so much more!
You will learn about adhesives suitable for indoor/outdoor, what bases will last the distance, what technique to choose for projects, lots of Sandy's tips and tricks.
Sandy will guide you on mosaic methods as you learn to nip and nibble, glue and paste, grout and polish! You will learn to select grout colours and what effect the grout colour and grout lines have on your works of art. At the end of the day you will take home a small, grouted trivet - this mosaic will serve as a sample to remind you of the direct method process.
Even if you have dabbled in mosaics or done other mosaic courses, you will benefit greatly from OzMosaics Introduction to Mosaics Sandy Style, beginner class.
See you there! Support an Australian artist and learn a new hobby, who knows where it may lead? We have everything you need under the one roof at OzMosaics. Visit our mosaic shop and studio - you will be amazed at what you will see and the fantastic range of tiles we have for the budding mosaic artist.
