Mum and the mosaic garden

This is a photo of mosaic birbath I made (actually I made 3 of them) last week. I surprised mum by giving her this one for her mosaic garden, which is already overflowing with beautiful mosaic pedestals, birdbaths, garden edges, mobiles, pots and wall art! Her specialty is sunflowers. Incredible mosaic sunflowers, but I thought this birdbath would look pretty nestled in her courtyard garden and might be fun with seeds etc in the glass dish to attract even more birds!
Mum attended the workshop at OzMosaics Studio yesterday and the students in the advanced mixed media and 3-D (Shove the Shard!) class enjoyed including some of her marvellous mosaic butterflies and flowers in their own artworks.
I had great pleasure in giving mosaicking mum a huge birdbath platter for her magical mosaic garden.
Mum has mosaicked with me for over 12 years and does such lovely work. She is so supportive, encouraging and great to be around. I love the way she loves to help me, she is a very giving person and will cut and shape and nibble the china and tiles - her pleasure is making mosaic elements for me and I am forever grateful to share this mosaic journey together.
I came up with the mosaic idea to pipe scrolls and decorative effects (including wording and more!) and highlighting with paints, nailpolishes and other special effects. I don't cook much these days, but I am greatly inspired by TV cooking shows, especially My Kitchen Rules. I admire the skill and talent of the contestants and the two girls who won 2012 MKR had my vote!
In myadvanced mosaic class students enjoy learning this creative mosaic technique, using thinset (cement base adhesive) as more than a fabulous mosaic adhesive! I use Laticrete products and they are perfect for mosaic art, both in quality and exceptional service.
Thinset and mosaic art / craft- It's only limited by your mosaic imagination. I adore advancing mosaic techniques with special effects and always thinking outside the mosaic square. It's very satisfying seeing so many of my mosaic ideas and quirky inventions being used world wide -- from health and safety ideas to cutting tips, methods and many, many more contemporary mosaic more. I almost turn myself inside out, experimenting and pushing the mosaic limits with tools, glues, techniques and fabulous finishes. The traditional techniques are the mosaic grounding and then I believe everyone should fly where their mosaic takes them, it's such a journey!
I have always said that one day it will be very interesting for archeologists to try and piece together broken and shaped china and found objects as often in classes we share exquiste old china, and one piece may be in Brisbane and the other sections spread over 4 mosaics elsewhere! Magical and eveyone project tells it's own story.
Mosaic artists around the world share their mosaic passion, ideas and help each other constantly on FAcebook, mosaic forums and meetups. It's a close-knit community and really pushes the mosaics to new levels.
