Australia Zoo mural - Steve Irwin Day 2011

OzMosaics (free) Workshop at Australia Zoo!
Add your piece to the conservation puzzle and help us create an awesome African themed masterpiece! The team from Oz Mosaics will help you add your piece of tile to the work of art. A mural will be made at Australia Zoo!  Visitors to Australia Zoo are invited to place a tile/tiles (aka tesserae!) to the mural in the making. The mural will be completed at Studio OzMosaics, Coorparoo, Brisbane Studio and returned completed, sealed and grouted in the near future for the Construction Team to install at Australia Zoo!
Thanks again to Laticrete Australia for their support in this mosaic adventure and we are going to do wonderful things with epoxy and thinset (as usual!) and I have some awesome new ideas to do with all the glue!

The mural sections tomorrow at Australia Zoo will feature a Zebra, Giraffes, Rhino and Balboa trees.  The main parts are being made using mosaic on fibreglass mesh mosaic method and these will be taken to adventurous new mosaic heights on return to the studio.  We have not finalized the size of the mural so that is not a problem, it will all come together very easily with lots more 3-d elements at the studio.


Of course, we will be using Dynasty shimmering smalti glass tile, vitreous glass, mosaic tiles, china, broken items and thinset painting and swirls etc. Mirror, greenery, wine bottles treated with SAndy's Spin the Mosaic Bottle invention and more!

Visitors to Australia Zoo on Steve Irwin Day will have fun and can record their name on the mural making list, which will be featured on Face book for tagging etc.  Fun again!

Visitors may also toss a coin or two in the Donation Box for the Animal Hospital.

I have a dedicated team of Mosaic Addicts coming to the Zoo, and for the first time, Mosaicking Mum can't make it due to a bit of a bug, so she will help at the studio next week. Mum you will be with us the whole time, your mosaic spirit is so amazing. xxxx

OzMosaics are donating all the tiles, mesh, whatever else it takes to get the murals done and substrates etc and of course the Mosaic Addicts Group Brisbane will help finish it off on Mosaic Tuesdays...we are MAD about Tuesdays!

The photos below are photos of animals at Australia Zoo.  So it's great to know the markings are actually on the creatures/on the mural!  We have kept it simple for the mosaic making at the zoo and will ramp it up to Awesome, Crikey Mate level on return to studio.

So, very busy, packing up, getting ready, lugging things to car..... and for those brave 'arts, after the Zoo comes the Wesley on Tuesday to Saturday, making a mural live on site at the Wesley Hospital until Saturday, raising funds for the Palliative Care Unit! Hope to see you there!
