About Sandy Robertson.
When Sandy Robertson is not on mosaic location, teaching students in artist in residence programs, installing client commissions or working in the public and community arts area, she is found at OzMosaics studio, teaching the art of mosaics or making mosaics!
Many share her mosaic addiction and attend the studio to develop their mosaic skills, as beginners or assisting Sandy with her many mosaic projects. It's a great life style, being surrounded by people who love mosaics; yes it's busy, yes it can be exhausting but it's what makes Sandy leap out of bed in the morning and work very late into many evenings....the joy of mosaics.
Dave Robertson, Sandy's husband and partner in OzMosaics, supports her mosaic whims and fills his role as customer support and shop manager with ease - making students welcome to browse, ask questions and most importantly, make mosaics! Together this close partnerships gives the best of both worlds, working from the home studio/workshop and bringing people to mosaics.
Teaching school students is one of Sandy's great loves - guiding them in their first steps to make mosaics and it's a constant thrill to see the projects they make with Sandy come to fruition. Sandy has been involved with many artist in residence programs, visit the section on School projects - it's amazing what can be done!
Working with adults in the mosaic workshops is always exciting, each class seems to take it's own direction and so many have become proficient in the art of mosaics, taking on Sandy's zest for 3-D and fanciful mosaics; mosaic to express oneself, to explore the medium and bring together all that mosaic art offers.
Client commissions stir the creative juices in Sandy to fabricate a mosaic that works with the clients inner vision, but allows something original to take shape - the sharing of concepts and ideas through to the final photograph of the installed mosaic - could be thought of as a daunting task, but Sandy thrives on making things happen! Browse the commission folder - it's quite diverse!
Sandy's own art adorns her studio, home and garden and many friends have her art in their private domains. Sandy finds great joy in her own mosaics, which allow her mind to free itself of pent up energy and mosaic vision. When Sandy works on her own mosaics, the pace really picks up - nothing is sacred as it finds it's way as tesserae into her art - this is what sets it apart - Sandy make the thinset perform and loves making the most of all products and tools. Sandy is innovative and has brought to the mosaic table many original tips and tricks, which her students and other mosaic enthusiasts have greatly benefited. Sandy believes while we share we grow both as artists and friends.
It goes without saying that Sandy is ably assisted by some amazing people. Mosaic mates who have been by her side from her mosaic beginnings, sharing the joy of all the art brings - the family, friends, students, teachers, professional artists and business colleagues - have stuck by Sandy over many mosaic projects and mad mosaic escapades - as mentors and supporters of all things mosaic - Sandy is grateful beyond words. Giving back to the community is high on Sandy and the mosaic addicts list - visit the community section and perhaps you may join us in our mosaic quest.
Working together achieves many goals and leads to continual discovery both in and outside of the mosaic world.
